Lanterns originated as a protective enclosure for a light source, usually used a candle as the light source and a handle to make it easier to carry and hang up on the wall.
Also in ancient cultures they used to add some diamonds as pendant units to add beauty.
The amazing reflection caused by the candle light of the lantern is such an inspiration for the form the color shades take, and the shade it gives to the pendant diamond.
